The endocrine system is a vital group of organs that secrete hormones and other substances that help the body perform its day-to-day function.  Composed of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, the adrenal glands, the pancreas, and the pituitary gland, the endocrine system is responsible for metabolism, growth, regulation of sugar, and electrolytes, and the bodies response to stress or trauma.
